In the quiet morning light of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, an elderly woman stands in heartfelt prayer to the Sun God at the ancient town of Bhaktapur in Nepal. Surrounded by centuries-old architecture and the artistry of the Newari craftsmen, this moment is a humble testament to the enduring spirituality and rich cultural heritage of Nepal’s ancient town.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square is the plaza in front of the royal palace of the old Bhaktapur Kingdom. It is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Durbar square is surrounded by spectacular architecture and vividly showcases the skills of the Newari artists and craftsmen over several centuries. The royal palace was originally situated at Dattaraya square and was only later moved to the Durbar square location. It is a collection of many temples, mostly dedicated to Hindu gods and goddesses.
