    • About Poras Chaudhary
      • At the heart of Poras’s work is an enduring fascination with color and light. He often says that to him, photography is “painting with light,” and nowhere is this more evident than in his dramatic use of natural light to illuminate scenes. Whether it’s the golden glow of sunrise filtering through morning mist or a burst of festival powder creating a rainbow in mid-air, Poras leverages light and color to evoke emotion. His images frequently explore themes of culture, tradition, and the human connection to environment.

Some images I shot for @nytimestravel article 36 H Some images I shot for @nytimestravel article 36 Hours in Kathmandu. Article by @sethsherwoodparisandeverywhere repost from @nytimestravel**Ten years after a powerful earthquake devastated the Himalayan nation of Nepal, its crowded, colorful capital, Kathmandu, is resurgent. Nearly all of the UNESCO-listed, centuries-old Hindu and Buddhist temples in the city have been restored, and the 19th-century Dharahara tower — a city icon - reopened in fall after a total reconstruction.
New developments are also afoot. A dynamic young mayor — a 34-year-old former rapper and political newcomer named Balen Shah - is trying to create a more inviting cityscape for the pioneering handful of ambitious restaurants and nightlife venues that has begun to materialize. As Nepal’s spring trekking and tourism season arrives, the city of monks and artisans has rarely been more appealing.

Assam, a hilly state near the borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, has long been a gateway to Northeast India, a remote, culturally distinct and comparatively crowd-free region that hangs as if by a thread from the country’s mainland. Now, the area is seeing both more international recognition and increased accessibility. In 2024, the Charaideo Moidams, or Pyramids of Assam, were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
These ancient burial mounds, constructed during the Ahom dynasty between the 13th and 19th centuries, offer a unique glimpse into the region’s royal legacy and spiritual essence.
Travelers can also visit the state’s world-famous tea gardens and Kaziranga National Park, where endangered one horned rhinoceros can be found. Improved infrastructure, including new roads, makes getting there even easier; an airport that serves Guwahati, Assam’s largest city, is set for a major expansion in 2025 that will quadruple its capacity and allow it to establish stronger links throughout the region.

From the “52 Places to go in 2025” by @nytimestrav From the “52 Places to go in 2025” by @nytimestravel @nytimes -Millenniums ago, a queen named Maya Devi is said to have entered the Gardens of Lumbini and given birth to Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha. Lumbini, in present-day Nepal, has since become a pilgrimage site filled with ancient ruins and contemporary Buddhist centers. And 10 years after a devastating earthquake rattled the country, new temples and meditation centers are opening. Inaugurated in November, the Thousand Buddha Temple is a three-level, Tibetan-style structure adorned with three 16-foot golden Buddha statues and more than 1,000 other Buddha statues. This year, the city will welcome the India International Center for Buddhist Culture and Heritage, a carbon-neutral, lotus-shaped building with meditation and exhibition rooms. Renovation work will also begin on the Ramagrama Stupa, a UNESCO-listed temple site from the sixth century B.C. about 30 miles from Lumbini. The Italian architect Stefano Boeri has provided the restoration design plan.Text by @sethsherwoodparisandeverywhere

Dry bushes, leafless trees, clouds floating in the Dry bushes, leafless trees, clouds floating in the blue sky. It's winter in Ladakh.
It also mean the schools are closed and the kids have plenty of time to kill.
It was a day in late November, most of which I spent exploring the Indus riverside of Thiksey village with a bunch of kids. Kind of reminded me of my own childhood, how me and my friends used to explore the wilderness around, looking for birds, playing in the bushes.
On that day in Thiksey I felt the kind of closeness we had with nature back in those day. It was amazing!
